Orthodontics

Orthodontics have been incorporated into our practice for the past 25 years. As a general dentist, Dr. Dana Colson has taken many continuing education courses over the years, in order to enhance her knowledge in orthodontics. Today’s ideal smile is perceived as a wide and broad smile showing not only the front teeth but also the side teeth. We can achieve this look with functional retainers and self-ligating bracket system. This technology allows light pressure to be used, which surprisingly allows the teeth to move faster. We see our patient’s once every ten weeks for the first few visits. So many people say to us “I can’t believe the changes that are occurring so quickly and without discomfort.” “I am so happy with how my new smile looks now!” Treatment is lessened as well.

We are increasingly using Invisalign (clear retainers) to straighten teeth for adults and teens that do not want to show braces. The aligners are worn twenty (20) hours a day and are changed every two to three weeks. A “clin0check” is fabricated for you to view how your treatment will proceed and your trays are made to move your teeth sequentially. The technology is amazing and we love the results! No one even realizes you are wearing them!

Expansion is our goal with very few extractions. It is always healthier to have a wide arch for neuromuscular principles; to enhance better tongue position and allow us to maximize our airway volume to prevent snoring and sleep apnea. Proper facial structure, including vertical dimension is strived for, so that our facial muscles will not be constricted, eliminating the possibility of girding and clenching.

It is never too late for orthodontic treatment. A full comprehensive diagnostic workup is performed, followed by a consult prior to beginning the work. Patients say they are happy to do this work and would never want to return to their original smile. Orthodontic treatment improves facial structure to be more aesthetically pleasing; thus, enhancing self-esteem. When work is completed for adults, their face looks younger; you get to turn back the clock.
